This brew, crafted with utmost care, will be unveiled at the 2023 Minnesota Craft Lager Fest in Alexandria, Minnesota on Saturday, June 17. The partnership brings together a unique brewing method and local ingredients for a remarkable brew.
Honoring Dual Citizen’s kolsch Service
To pay homage to Dual Citizen Brewing’s beloved Kolsch service, held twice a month during the summer in their taproom, a Kolsch style was chosen for this collaboration.
Exploring a different kind of technique for a kolsch
Diverging from the regional norm for a Kolsch, 22 Northmen and Dual Citizen Brewing decided to chill lager wort in a coolship, a technique commonly used in Belgium but less prevalent in the United States. This adds a distinctive touch to the beer, setting it apart in the Minnesota beer community.
The local barley connection
Central to this collaboration is the use of locally sourced barley from Windrow Malting, a small family farm in Chokio, Minnesota. Windrow Malting embraces organic farming, preserving their ancestors’ legacy by cultivating crops without chemicals and synthetic fertilizers. By incorporating this barley, the collaboration highlights the farm-to-palette experience and strengthens the connection between dedicated small businesses.
